CWCR NEWS! *da da da da!*

Yeah... I finished the 5th chapter? The problem? A. I haven't typed it all up on Word yet, which isn't really a problem anyway. XD B. I'm stuck on a scene with Toadette. C. Everyone seems OOC in the ending of the chapter, and I need "Paper Mario" so I can be accurate. Only "Paper Mario" is still at the old house, and when my sister went away to college recently, she took nearly all the video game systems with her, including the N64, so I'll have to get a new one. Crap. So it's finished, just... not quite. XD I've also spent time fixing and reformatting the older chapters so it wouldn't seem so old (after that, I'm never touching them again. XD I don't want my old style to catch up with me) and since I know how to insert italics and such into FF.net, I wanna put all the stuff into my older chapters I wasn't able to before. :) So yeah, here's the 2nd chapter. And just because this chapter is tame (PG to be safe) doesn't mean the next two are. XDDD *brick*

Why wasn’t I there? Why?

He sniffed and rubbed his congested nose, staring at the unfinished letter with sullen eyes. It had been difficult for Mallow to breathe lately, and his throat was becoming itchy the more he sucked air through his mouth. The inked feather held listlessly in his hand, the prince had just enough energy to write a few more sentences before stopping again. Overwhelmed by the heat taking over his body, it caused him to feel sluggish and tired—his head-ache didn’t make things much better either. Despite these conditions however, he continued to write—this paper was important.

"Prince Mallow?"

A servant walked in, holding a tray consisting of water and a bowl of rice.

"How are you feeling? Any better?"
"Not much…" the child replied, his voice clogged and weary.
"I brought you your medicine, so your nose could clear up when you go to bed. It's best to take it as soon as you can—it’s quite bitter.”

Mallow nodded, taking the tablet from the servant's hand.

"That should clear your nose for about twenty-four hours, I believe." stated the castle worker, while the prince swallowed his medicine. "You're up pretty late writing that letter; it's best to continue it once you recover from your sickness and have some rest."

"But, but that letter is important!" Mallow exclaimed. "I haven't written to Mario in months, and-"

"Don't worry about Mario," the assistant said calmly. "You shouldn't stress yourself, especially in the condition you're in now! I understand that Mario has been through a lot the past few days, but now he's away at another quest. Nobody knows where he is now, so it would be best to deliver the letter once he comes home."

"I suppose you're right," sighed Mallow. "It's just that it's been a long time since I have even talked to him. I hope he's doing okay..."

"I'm sure he's fine," said the servant. "You should be as good as new in a week or so. I must go, but if you need me for anything, I'll come back to help you."

"All right!" Mallow replied, finishing his water. "Could you take these back for me?"

"That's fine," responded the castle worker as he picked up the barely-touched bowl and empty glass from the prince. "I hope you have a nice sleep tonight."

Mallow nodded.

"You too!" he smiled. "Sweet dreams!" The servant nodded with satisfaction while he left the room.

The door opened and shut, leaving Mallow once again alone in his room.

It was nearly impossible for the prince to sleep; the fever had taken its toll upon him while he tried to rest. The fluffy prince shivered as he lay without blankets, yet felt too hot with the quilt draped over as well. The boy sighed, covering the blanket over his body and relaxing his head on his pillow, breathing heat while waiting to the waiting for the slumber that wouldn’t come. Suddenly, a powerful, quick gust of wind rushed past the castle, having him feel as if he were blown off bed. Immediately, the shocked Mallow rushed towards the window nearest him, in hopes of seeing what caused it. The child found nothing in the cloudy darkness, except for what seemed to be the shadow of a circular helicopter sweeping past his home. The bizarre shape seemed to be heading onward to a gigantic rain cloud in the distance... yet looking closely, he could see it was a fortress in the sky. Yet… could they be both? Cloud and building?

~

King Bowser and his children laughed as they arrived to their new castle; something even high-jumping plumbers could never possibly reach. Everybody jumped from the helicopter, Princess Peach held captive by their sides.

"I can’t believe this!" Bowser cheered. "Victory!"

Peach, while she could say nothing with the gag tight around her mouth, sneered at the Koopa king, anger and determination flashing through her eyes.

"You're saying Mario will come stop me?" chuckled Bowser. "You can kiss your luck good bye! Mario won't ever be coming up here, I'm sure of it this time!"

Wendy O. Koopa giggled. "So..." she mocked. "Where could your man be anyway?"

"Say, you don't think the mushroom guy we left behind went off to look for Mario, did he?" asked Larry, slightly worried.

"Eh, I'm sure he was killed off by one throw of Ludwig's strength," Morton Jr. grinned.

"Yeah!" chortled Roy. "What a shrimp he was! A weakling!"

All the Koopa children laughed with the exception of Ludwig.

"You idiots!" Ludwig hollered. "We shouldn’t allow ourselves to underestimate anything, even the mushroom retainer. Toad… that was his name, right princess?"

He turned to Peach, grinning wickedly like he knew the response anyway. The princess simply stood, the sweat on her head being the only thing she felt while fear already frozen her.

"I'll take that as a yes," chuckled Ludwig. "Okay. Anyway, as the Koopa tribe, we need a plan! We’ve heard Mario gone off on some kinda secret quest, right? We can take full advantage of the Mushroom Kingdom while he isn’t here. But! His friends are likely to be still around. Should they find out the princess is kidnapped, they'll come up for her and our plan for world domination will be ruined! It all starts with Toad—he’s no harm to us now, but he’ll be dangerous if he finds Mario’s petty friends to protect him, and by the time that’s done, they’ll find a way to reach the castle and our accomplishments would mean nothing! We need a plan… but let us rely on our dear father for that, and we’ll help him when he needs us. Kammy Koopa, too, once she comes back. …Dad, shall I escort the princess to her room?"

~

"Twink, do you have a plan?" Toad asked, now in his regular clothes while he and the Star Kid left the castle.
"Not yet," the Star Kid frowned. "I'm thinking of something though."
"Mario has a lot of friends that join him on his travels, right? Perhaps if we seek help from them, we'll be able to rescue the princess in no time! I might not be able to do much, but—it's the least that I can do!"
"That’s a great idea! But there’s one problem…”
“What is it, Twink?”
“Well… according to the wishes the Star Spirits get, many of Mario's allies are busy or away..."
"Is there anyone nearby who could help us, then?" he replied with anxiety.
"Don’t worry, I know someone! If we’re careful, it shouldn’t us long to see her. There were strange wishes coming from Forever Forest lately… it’s best to see what’s going on before we go back to the castle.”
“The woods? You mean in Toad Town? Twink, you don’t mean—!”
"I'm sorry we have to go to a place like this late at night," frowned Twink. "But we've got to hurry. Bowser and Shinar are planning chaos with each passing second, and who knows when they'll strike! It's best to get as much done as we can before Mario comes back—right now, we need to reach an area inside Forever Forest called Boo Mansion, where a friend of Mario's lives. Not only that, the people who die that become Boos sometimes move in the mansion too… maybe you-know-who will be there!"
The mushroom retainer was about to speak, but only a choked utter was heard. His face looked solemn for the longest time… finally, he replied.
“I… I understand.” He nodded. “If it means helping Mario, and everyone else… I trust your judgment.”

A the chilly wind flew against the walls of the Mushroom Kingdom castle, shadowing a frightened, motionless figure from the back of the trees. He shivered as he floated into the world, the dark sky not helping one bit to his anxiety. Spotting the floating star and mushroom retainer walking away, the nameless creature began to approach the two beings, seeking a better look.

Could it…could it be Toad?

The figure squinted, and the next thing he knew, they were gone.

"Hey, wait! Where are you!? Come back… don’t leave me! Don’t leave me alone!”

The Boo flung around in the dark, devastated, desperate, afraid… searching.

End of Chapter 2

To be continued...

A/N: Well, I ended up liking the story a lot, so I decided to continue. ^^ I know the chapter’s short and kinda sucky, but oh well. I still have a long way to go writing this… crap, should’ve written the entire thing before posting. XD
