"Oh my gosh… look Amy! Over there!"
"Huh?"
Immediately, Cream took flight, leaving a curious Amy to turn after her. Her hands quite full, the pink hedgehog's boots clicked the tiles as they found themselves beneath a secluded corner of a gigantic Christmas tree: fluffy and fresh, it wrought in a rainbow of lights, tinsels, and garlands. Numerous figurines wavered, and bulbs glowed and followed the girls as they met their visitor. Once a solitary figure sitting in the dark corner, he was greeted and overwhelmed by the sudden leap and embrace of a rabbit and Chao alike…
"Why, Shadow! What are you doing here by yourself? You look just like Santa Clause!" Cheese in turn, offered a squeal of joy.
Amy too, when she had caught up, had to smile herself and repress a few giggles--looking at the unfortunate black hedgehog, it seemed as if she were looking at a disgruntled cat with a lemon cap atop his head. Head to toe, clad in holiday gear: Black boots. A puffy-red coat, complete with white floof. A jingling silver bell around his neck. And a Santa hat…! Amy tried her best not to envision a fluffy beard, her face burning cherry-red--she couldn't help herself. Shadow's cheeks reddened, too--though with his eyes closed like that, it was as if the black hedgehog wanted to fold himself up behind that humongous coat and disappear. Normally, it was times like these Shadow went on a homicidal rampage, but now, he…
"Merry Christmas, Shadow!" The rabbit wrapped a silky, holly-green scarf around the green hedgehog's neck, the dark one docile as her hands brushed him like an angel's. His nerves soothed and his shoulders grew less tense, letting them sink as she and Cheese beamed gleefully upon him. With their work done, they left to skip about 'round the Christmas tree-if anything, he acted less of "Ultimate Life" and more like an embarrassed hamster.
"Rouge is so mean, isn't she?" Amy finally spoke. "I take it she let Sonic give you the hat?"
"Socks, actually." He cringed, but at least he had the courage to open his eyes. "They're… green… Rouge gave me the hat."
Through his sighing scowl, he was able to take a good look at Miss Rose: there she was, in what looked like her usual outfit, only… slinkier. A softer, lush crimson. Finally, the rim of her dress was not the usual cotton, but of silken-white fluff.
"By the way, I brought you a present!"
"…Another one, I see."
"No, Shadow--nothing like that! These are for you."
Carried in her arms, she placed the object before him: there it was, a plastic pot wrapped in crystal-pink paper, a poinsettia bloomed from rich-black soil. Passionate, fiery-red leaves bowed themselves between both hedgehogs, like moths attracted to the scarlet hues of Shadow's eyes and outfit, and the shade of Amy's gown. Teeny-tiny flowers puckered between the leaves, innocence of angels radiating their sunlit yellow, glowing and speckling between the leaves like stars on a Christmas tree.
"They're…" Speechless. "They're beautiful…!"
"I didn't know what to get you," she smiled. "I figured you weren't exactly a holiday person, but-it's the spirit that counts, right?"
"Amy, I-"
The pink hedgehog placed a hand upon the dark one's cheek--his eyes were much softer, full of wonder and brightness of a child. Was that what holiday spirit did to you? She closed her eyes and leaned her face in, smiling a sweet, fangirl grin.
"This is also for you, by the way." Her lips touched upon his, and the black hedgehog's eyes shot wide in astonishment, shortly closing them and accepting her gift. A peppermint-like tap tingled him, melting like snow and warming to bliss.
They broken apart, and it hadn't been long before they heard a pair of masculine screams from the distance…
"Was that Sonic and Knuckles?"
"Oh, another one of Rouge's tricks… took 'em a while to realize they're under her mistletoe, I guess."
A brief pause of confusion turned a crafty smirk. "I see."
"Merry Christmas, Shadow." With a light giggle, Amy Rose pulled him for another kiss, the poinsettia tucked gently between them.
