Well, I didn't think I'd write about Cream's mom. XDDD;;; Maybe sooner or later, but not this early. Was gonna do something silly for
sonic_drive's prompt, but this popped about instead. :o
Title: Lilies & Lions
Fandom: Sonic the Hedgehog
Genre: Drama
Rating: G
Warnings: None.
Ships/Characters: Vanilla-centered
Finished: Yes
I should seriously go play video games now. @.@;;;
Challenge: Dresses
They were married on a hill. That, she fondly remembered. The vows. The kiss. Everything.
‘Til death do us part.
Vanilla couldn’t resist a grin. Wasn’t it silly to trust your vows on that? Death was a fickle thing.
She and her daughter would walk through this meadow. But once a year, she walked alone, while Cream was still asleep—the break of dawn etched on that familiar hill, the buttercups popping open to the light as the prettiest, buttery ones were plucked with a careful hand…
Vanilla closed her eyes beneath her veil, coating her face in a gossamer mist. The widow lowered her head to the dawn, her bridal gown caught by the breeze and twinkling like new-fallen Christmas snow—pure & simple, cold & hollow. With the toss of her arm, Vanilla delivered the bouquet: specked with tears and morning dew, the roses mixed with freshly picked wildflowers—daisies, peonies, lilies, irises, sage and wild berries—as the pink satin ribbon came undone and the petals and seeds rained upon the bottomless forest canopy below. Save for a plucky dandelion, for it wasn’t like real “flowers”—bloomed of humble beginning, the yellow puffs hovered last and free, the ripe ones burst into a stream of white fluff sailing upon open air—like tiny angels.
That morning upon the hill, she was a maiden turned princess. He was a businessman, and together created a fairy-tale in a land where there was none. Wiping her eyes, Vanilla was satisfied. Someday, she would wear this gown again. To crown a peasant a prince, to carry the memory and love again, bring magic to themselves and her daughter—it was what he would’ve wanted.
“Happy Anniversary, dear.”
